### MATHEMATICS APPLICATION IN 16TH CENTURY STEM* JOBS

The Measurers - XVI Century

School curriculum on K-9 grade is based in teaching and applying Mathematics that were meant to be used on activities of the sixteenth century.

"Math students were constructing congruent triangles to investigate the SSS and SAS Triangle Congruence Postulates. Using the Bullseye straightedge/compass/rule/protractor all in one tool, they copied segments and angles without having to measure actual lengths or angles."

Today's schools concentrate their efforts in teaching math with Euclidian axioms and propositions not considering this type of knowledge is useless to modern times problem-solving. They perpetuate the use of old technology increasing the technological gap between our school systems and high-tech industry.

Math is very important for trading: goods must be carefully measured,weighed and counted, not to mention money exchange. International comparisions indicate that Mexican students are specially week at solving problems involving measurements (Metrology).

SIXTEENTH CENTURY DEFINITIONS,AXIOMS AND POSTULATES IN THE XXI CENTURY CLASSROOM

With the mathematics we teach our middle school students TODAY they can only solve 16th century problems

In Mexico, students are given math textbooks with examples and problems that can only be relevant to sixteenth century STEM jobs

The growing demand across all industries for new products and innovation is fueling demand for STEM talent. School curriculum on grades K-12 needs to be updated to meet these demands and help develop the skills required by the 21st Century STEM Jobs.
